FOSTER Training for Trainers: Human rights of vulnerable migrant groups

Podgorica, Montenegro, January 24-26, 2024

The FOSTER Training for Trainers took place in Podgorica, Montenegro, from January 24 to 26, 2024. This event was organized as a collaborative effort between the “Inclusion of foreigners in the Western Balkans – access to social and economic rights (FOSTER)” project, the Balkan Refugee and Migration Council (BRMC), and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to address migration challenges and uphold human rights, particularly for vulnerable migrant groups. Facilitated by experts Peter Skerbis and Ivan Kocovski, the sessions covered topics such as fundamental rights, discrimination, access to justice, family unity, healthcare, education, and human rights protection in smuggling and trafficking situations.

Through a combination of theoretical discussions, practical exercises, and real-life case studies, trainers gained insights into the complexities of human rights advocacy in the context of migration. The event concluded with a focus on the practical application of principles in advocacy work.

The FOSTER Training for Trainers underscores the commitment of regional organizations (Macedonian Young Lawyers Association, Vaša Prava BiH, Beogradski centar za ljudska prava|BCHR, Civil Rights Program – Kosovo (CRP/K), Grupa 484, Komiteti Shqiptar i Helsinkit, Pravni centar) to empower advocates and promote human rights in the Western Balkans and beyond. This initiative was made possible through the support of the European Union and the collaborative efforts of BRMC and DRC.
